Papa John's BBQ Beef Brisket Pizza - Review
Sometimes you have one of those weeks, where it seems like we're busy every night and our evening meal needs to be quick and tasty. Last week was exactly like that so I was delighted when Papa John's got in touch to see if we'd like to try their brand new BBQ Brisket Pizza. I used to eat Papa John's regularly when I lived in York a good few (about 15!) years ago so I was really pleased to see it open up in our nearest big town lately, and put us inside their delivery area! We hadn't managed to try it so this was the perfect opportunity to do so.Our pizza arrived piping hot just before our requested delivery time and it looked impressive when we opened the box. Topped with the usual Papa John's pizza sauce, mozzarella, beef brisket and onions with a really tasty sweet cola BBQ sauce spiralling over everything else. There's a big chili in the corner of the box, for those who prefer a touch more heat, and a pot of Papa John's special garlic sauce for dipping.
Papa John's have designed their new pizza to be the perfect Summer pizza and to capture the BBQ taste without having to get those coals burning. The meat is slow smoked beef brisket burnt ends, from only British or Irish cows, and it's marinaded in a blend of nine herbs and spices including oregano, garlic, paprika ginger and cumin, before being slow roasted for four hours! The beef was lovely and we hoovered up every last piece including those that had dropped off the pizza into the box! I'm not a huge fan of BBQ sauce on pizza but the cola sauce on this one had a real depth of flavour which I really enjoyed, it complemented the meat perfectly.
It was a beautiful evening so we took the opportunity for an easy al fresco dinner. Ian and I shared a large Deep Pan pizza and it filled us both up well, with most of the crusts going to Little E for a good chew! I'm usually a thin crust girl but the deep pan on the pizza was light and enjoyable, with none of the heavy, doughy feel that some deep pan pizzas have. The garlic dipping sauce was insanely moreish. I wish I could buy it!
I was really pleased with our experience of Papa John's and the menu we received has gone into our takeaway menu folder. I doubt it will be fifteen or so years before we try it again!
